the cutting edge 2: going for the gold

I just watched the sequel to The Cutting Edge and I'm not sure I can articulate how this movie made me feel. I was still quite small when I first saw The Cutting Edge, and it has been one of my favourite movies for years. I've written fic for it, which is usually a pretty good indication of my love for a text, and it's one of those comfort movies I rewatch all the time.

This sequel was so bad, I want to write fic about Doug and Kate set before and during this movie, fixing all the problems.

1. where was Pamchenko? Let me tell you, that drunken fool was probably either dead or severely intoxicated, seducing terribly young women, or else he and Doug had the inevitable fight ten years previous, and refused to speak to one another because when Doug and Kate's daughter decided to go pairs, he would have been there in a fucking heartbeat. I bet he was gleefully training her when she was ten and yelling at her when she was fifteen, and I want to know where he was.
2. Hilarious uncle Walter, with his bar. She'd go there every summer, but then she'd miss her morningn session, so he calls her up and cheerfully abuses her instead for refusing to visit, until the years have been so long that their friendship has changed too much.
3. It should be Doug who finds Alex. Doug who has to convince Jackie, although, it's true that Doug's laid-back approach in the movie was pretty damn accurate.
4. I'm not even going to talk about the fact that Jackie was clearly at least twenty, in 2006, when Doug and Kate won their gold (AND THEY TOTALLY DIDN'T WIN GOLD) in 1992. Clearly she was adopted.
5. And finally, SNOGGING ON THE ICE AT THE OLYMPICS IS DUMB. STOP DOING IT. FOR FUCK'S SAKE.

Oh, I admit that freely. But it kept my interest, had pretty people ice skating, and the cheesy romance sucked me in nicely. :)
