[explanation] what is a tig?

Don't answer that question! I already know the answer! But I am going to explain, as there appears to be heaps of people on my flist who don't know what a tig is.

Yesterday, I asked if anyone wanted to tig BSG with me. Responses were enthusiastic, but unsure.

TIG: the act of taking turns writing. Usually there's just the two of you (because, let's face it, any more and it'd be a round robin). Tigging (the term) started off in the LotRPS fandom, and sort of spread out.

[livejournal.com profile] tig_meh is a (dying) tig community,

I am currently tigging SVU over here, and as you can see, it's pretty unstructured. We started with a random situation that I just typed and posted, and Sloane answers as she feels like it, and we take turns.

This is a post where [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge also wonders what a tig is. Uhm, a lot of people who answer Sam's post actually have no idea, but some of them do.

ANYWAY, I'm going to give you all a chance to read this, and ask any questions you still have about tigging (of which I suspect there will be a few, as I have a habit of explaining things as clear as mud). And then tomorrow at some point, I'm going to contact anyone who is still interested, and see what happens.

TIGGING is FUN. Just so you know.

I should tig your BSG - just because I have no idea who these characters are and it would be funny.

Round-robinish, it looks like, in essence. Whee!

Am still interested, moreso now having seen that. And since my net-acess is supposed to be getting better very soon, make that interested-squared. Distraction-flavoured things are always good, and writing is better.

Now that I know what "tigging" is, I'd be interested. I used to be involved in a B5 RR many years ago. Always fun

Hey! Um, hi, found you through either [livejournal.com profile] meyerlemona or [livejournal.com profile] svilleficrecs - or possibly [livejournal.com profile] beyond_insane. (I've been pulled into the obsession of BSG literally in the last week, so all this is very new and shiny for me.)

But that's not the point! The point is that the 'tigging' sounds like an awesome idea. I've never heard about it before, but I'm interested all the same.

And I friended you. I hope that's okay. :)

Oh. So it's like a round robin fic? I used to read one for Sark from Alias, it was a lot of fun. I didn't participate though, because I'm a nut about my own writing and agonize and never finish it and so on.

Thanks. I'm still curious about the etymology of the word, though. But not enough to go looking for an explanation. Heh.
