1. when he was a kid, he wanted to save the world.
2. even though it was the end of the world, even though they were thrown together by fate and circumstance and a lack of anyone else even remotely attractive in the vicinity (starbuck aside, for obvious apollo reasons), when billy looked at dee he saw someone beautiful, someone worthwhile, someone he could really love. it really cut him when, at the end, she was just as flawed as everyone else.
