[explanation] what is a tig?

Don't answer that question! I already know the answer! But I am going to explain, as there appears to be heaps of people on my flist who don't know what a tig is.

Yesterday, I asked if anyone wanted to tig BSG with me. Responses were enthusiastic, but unsure.

TIG: the act of taking turns writing. Usually there's just the two of you (because, let's face it, any more and it'd be a round robin). Tigging (the term) started off in the LotRPS fandom, and sort of spread out.

[livejournal.com profile] tig_meh is a (dying) tig community,

I am currently tigging SVU over here, and as you can see, it's pretty unstructured. We started with a random situation that I just typed and posted, and Sloane answers as she feels like it, and we take turns.

This is a post where [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge also wonders what a tig is. Uhm, a lot of people who answer Sam's post actually have no idea, but some of them do.

ANYWAY, I'm going to give you all a chance to read this, and ask any questions you still have about tigging (of which I suspect there will be a few, as I have a habit of explaining things as clear as mud). And then tomorrow at some point, I'm going to contact anyone who is still interested, and see what happens.

TIGGING is FUN. Just so you know.

I should tig your BSG - just because I have no idea who these characters are and it would be funny.

You are so mean to me. I know where you live work, young lady!

ALSO, we've had this discussion already. You should totally be watching BSG.

I know where you live work, young lady!

I love it when you call me "young lady"...

You should totally be watching BSG.

But then the tig would make sense - where's the fun in that?

The irony was not lost on me, but you are the one still attending classes and completing an undergrad. Well, technically I am too, I suppose, but I am HONOURABLE, and you are not. *nods*

But then the tig would make sense - where's the fun in that?

I have no words. None at all.

but you are the one still attending classes and completing an undergrad.

My *second* undergrad. And one is not HONOURABLE until one has the certificate with the wording on it - which I have, thank you very much.

You can't see me, but I am making "wah wah wah" hand motions in the direction of your trashy suburb. You hear me? TRASHY.

[identity profile] mandysbitch.livejournal.com 2005-03-08 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
What the fuck does a "wah wah wah" hand motion look like?

your trashy suburb.

Please. We may be the Jewish heart of Perth but we're not Queens.

What the fuck does a "wah wah wah" hand motion look like?

Like you're making the motions of a hand-sock puppet, but without the sock.

Okay, when I explain it, it sounds stupid. I will show you next time I see you.

Round-robinish, it looks like, in essence. Whee!

Am still interested, moreso now having seen that. And since my net-acess is supposed to be getting better very soon, make that interested-squared. Distraction-flavoured things are always good, and writing is better.

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2005-03-08 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
We should tig BSG/Sandman! [/brilliant plan]

You are EVIL.

(That's wholehearted agreement.)

Now that I know what "tigging" is, I'd be interested. I used to be involved in a B5 RR many years ago. Always fun

Hey! Um, hi, found you through either [livejournal.com profile] meyerlemona or [livejournal.com profile] svilleficrecs - or possibly [livejournal.com profile] beyond_insane. (I've been pulled into the obsession of BSG literally in the last week, so all this is very new and shiny for me.)

But that's not the point! The point is that the 'tigging' sounds like an awesome idea. I've never heard about it before, but I'm interested all the same.

And I friended you. I hope that's okay. :)

Yay to obsession!

Haha, I actually just noticed you because I've got some commentary of yours from your journal queued up for tomorrow's [livejournal.com profile] galacticanews, as I just noticed it after I posted today's. Curses!

I would love to tig with a complete stranger! That actually sounds like hilarious fun! What is your email? (We must discuss things in private, you see)

Yay to obsession!

My fall was shamefully shamefully fast.

Well, awesome! *is so gleeful*

I would also love to tig with a complete stranger! although you do have the Australian thing going for you, I noticed, so there is a certain sense of brotherhood there. Or whatever you'd call it. *g* But yay! Email is stars_like_dust AT hotmail dot com.

Oh. So it's like a round robin fic? I used to read one for Sark from Alias, it was a lot of fun. I didn't participate though, because I'm a nut about my own writing and agonize and never finish it and so on.

Thanks. I'm still curious about the etymology of the word, though. But not enough to go looking for an explanation. Heh.
