1. Angel, Cordelia
erase/rewind - the cardigans (i take it back)
The door swung open, and Cordelia looked out at Angel.
"What do you want?" she asked. She had her hands on her hips and makeup on her cheeks, but he could see the bags under her eyes. He thought maybe she had been crying.
"You said you'd forgiven me. And I thought, it's lonely in the hotel, and maybe you'd come back to us."
Cordelia laughed, and stepped back from the door. "Yeah, and I've had a change of heart. Good thing I have a heart to change, huh?" Dennis slammed the door in Angel's face, and he turned away.
2. The Princess Bride, Buttercup
fall - leonardo's bride (lost my feet in the undertow)
Buttercup is pregnant, and she hates it. Her cheeks are blotchy and she has not seen her feet in weeks. Westley brings her breakfast if she thinks she can stomach it, and crosses swords with Inigo all day. She suspects his years as the Dread Pirate Roberts dulled his courtesy.
She wonders if Westley loves Inigo.
She spends her afternoons gathering herbs, and her evenings drying them. If she requires assistance, she asks Fezzik. She mashes the herbs together, and hopes they will dull the pain she feels.
She hopes Fezzik will not leave when Westley realises she bores him.
3. Narnia, Susan
low place like home - sneaker pimps (precious else to lose)
Susan opened her mailbox, and was surprised to find a letter addressed to her. The handwriting was loopy and wide, and for a moment she entertained the thought it was Lucy's handwriting, but quickly pushed it aside. It would not do for her to dwell on things that could not be.
She opened the letter, not even waiting to go inside and use her letter opener, and found a job offer in America. She checked the date. To start in a month.
Susan did not hesitate to write her acceptance. There was no reason for her to stay in England.
4. Firefly, Inara
your woman - white town (it comes as no surprise at all you see)
"Inara, please," Mal pleads, and she looks up at him. He looks wan, and she is not surprised. She smiles bitterly and turns away.
He reaches out and grabs her. "I'm not gonna ask again," he says.
"No, you're not," she says softly. She pulls her dress over her head. It falls into place with little effort. Perfect for a quick get away. She cups his face; leans forward and kisses him. It is goodbye.
She walks to the ladder and pulls herself up. She will leave the ship when they land.
She hopes Kaylee will not cry. Inara won’t.
5. BtVS, Faith
strange glue - catatonia (i don't have the right to be with you tonight)
She's wearing some hideous paisley dress. You wonder if she looked before putting it on. It has a high neck, makes her look prudish. You watch the lack of muscles as you reach out and grab her arm.
"What are you doing?";she asks, surprised she can't free herself.
You look at her, ring on her finger and bun in the oven, and think perhaps she's no longer worth your time.
"Faith, take your hands off my wife." Giles looks at her like she's something precious and bundles her away.
No, you correct yourself. You're not good enough for her.
6. Good Omens, Crowley, Aziraphale
eating the peach - from james and the giant peach (i crave the tasty tentacles of octopi for tea)
Crowley stabbed, grimacing. "You're trying to kill me, aren't you?"
"Crowley, you're not alive," Aziraphale replied primly, lifting his fork to his mouth. Crowley watched in disbelief as the angel chewed and swallowed.
"You're making it disappear before it hits your tongue!" Crowley accused. Aziraphale considered poking his tongue out in evidence, but discarded it as uncouth. He took another bite instead, and smiled in delight as Crowley paled.
Crowley watched the tentacle disappear into Aziraphale's mouth, and glared at the waiter, who found himself suddenly burdened with a rare steak and headed towards the two gentlemen in the corner.
7. Firefly, River
she's not fooling around - hunters and collectors (the damage i've done she's overcome)
Simon leans against the wall and listens to River's words as she draws. She talks about peaches and presidents, and laughs. He smiles at the sound, but his smile is false. When he walks in, the smile on his face is hard to maintain as she hands him her drawing. It is for him, and he identifies blood on hands of blue and hands of tan. He thanks her. "Don't," she says, and turns away.
Later, Kaylee looks at him and holds his hand. She tickles him and laughs, and when he smiles at her his smile reaches his eyes.
8. Smallville, Lex Luthor, Superman
the sound of breaking up - paul mac (turned off my phone: stop calling)
When Superman lands beside him, Mercy is nowhere to be found. This is not unexpected. Lex looks at the pedestrians below, and plays with the paperweight in his hand.
"I've missed you," says Superman. Lex smiles unpleasantly. He wants to say I told you to fuck off, but Superman never listens.
He drops the paperweight at the pedestrians, but it never hits the ground.
Lex is inside the penthouse before Superman can return to the balcony, and Mercy stands by the door, kryptonite bullets in her gun.
She does not take her eyes off Superman as she draws the blinds.
9. HP, Harry
no aphrodisiac - the whitlams (come up for summer i've got a place near the beach)
Harry sits on the step and looks down the beach. From his vantage point he can see people frolicking in the water, people baking on the beach. Little kids make sandcastles, and he imagines making a sand-Hogwarts with Ron and Hermione. He imagines dripping water on Hermione as she reads, and imagines throwing a frisbee with Ron.
He doesn't hear his name until a mass of hair and warmth hurls into his arms. He looks down at Hermione, and up at Ron's beaming face.
"We've been looking for you," says Ron, as he leans down to give Harry a kiss.
(15: Do not seek to tan! It is bad for your skin. I speak from experience.)
10. The Muppets, Kermit and a cast of frogs
the frogs in the glen - from sesame street (i'm proud to be what i am)
A frog hops across the stage. "Laa!" it sings, before tripping over a log. The other frogs laugh, and the cacophony continues. Kermit wanders out, shushing. The frogs ignore him, although some watch the frog mime stalking behind. He asks the ballerina monsters to move aside until later, and they pirouette off the stage in their tutus.
"Quiet please," but no frog hears, and a splash beside him indicates a diving competition in progress.
"Quiet!" he yells, and waves his arms in frustration. The other frogs look at him, but their silence is fleeting. Sometimes, it's hard being a frog.
11. HP, the wizarding world
the day you come - powderfinger (so ignorance has won)
The Prophet declares Blood Traitor Captured In Dangerous Siege! Our Intrepid Reporter Risks Life and Limb To Be First On the Scene! and, captured in black and white, Severus ducks his head and scowls. Fudge will throw him into Azkaban even through his silence, but not before he watches Kingsley give testimony under veritaserum and carefully questioned by Wormtail. By the week's end, Fudge will have Dumbledore on charges too weak to hold a butterfly but the mobs will do the extra work required. Voldemort smiles and folds the paper in half. He has won, and not lifted a finger.
12. Good Omens, Aziraphale
accidently kelly street - frente (sleeping in is not a sin)
Aziraphale's head hurt. He discarded the possibility that it was the vodka, or the schnapps, and placed the blame at the feet of the wine. He concentrated, and sobered.
Relieved, he sat up. A groan came from the lump beside him. "Stop moving, angel," mumbled the lump. Aziraphale pulled the sheets back, and was surprised to discover Crowley there. He wondered why God had yet to strike them down (or at least recall him), as Crowley asked "Why is the blessed sun so bright?" Aziraphale looked at the time, and decided that sleeping in was the least of his worries.
13. Narnia, Lucy
isobel - dido (i'm helping it pass by loving you more)
Lucy rejoiced when they first came to the real Narnia, but after celebrating for days, she became quite sad. It seems strange that she would cry in Aslan's home, but Aslan's love could not overcome the heartache she felt when she thought of Susan.
Lucy took to watching the Tree, and it was by the Tree that Edmund found her. Edmund wrapped his arms around her, and held her until she had cried herself out. He wiped her tears and led her back to Aslan. Edmund did not ask why she cried, and alone, shed tears for both his sisters.
14. HP, Lily
the chariot - the cat empire (i wrote this declaration just in case the world ends)
Messrs Padfoot, Moony and Wormtail, read the ad, are in complete raptures over the birth of HARRY JAMES POTTER on July 31st. He was welcomed into the world by his traumatised father, James Potter, his exhausted mother Lily Potter, two young troublemakers who weren't worthy of the title godfather, and his very proud godfather.
The ad was a full page, and contained a very unflattering picture of Lily and James cuddling Harry. Lily put down the paper. She was going to kill Sirius. After, she thought she might cut the ad out. Something for Harry to remember his godfather by.
15. Law and Order: SVU, Elliot, Olivia
cry - the mavis's (we waste more time each day)
It's raining, but Elliot gets out of the car anyway. He dashes out to buy a bagel, and his phone rings, but he's left it on the seat. It stops. He gets back in the car.
Private number.
Around the corner, and Olivia's light is on.
Elliot dials her home phone, but there is no answer. He drives away.
Olivia turns off the shower. She wanders around her flat, drying her hair. She looks at her phone. She considers calling Elliot, but decides he's probably busy. She thinks he might have the kids this weekend.
Olivia turns out the light.
16. HP/BtVS, Snape
say goodbye - hunters and collectors (together we will fade away)
Snape is asleep when it happens, and he doesn't feel a thing.
Hogwarts is silent. It is the holidays, Dumbledore is in London, and the few left are in Hogsmeade.
She slips into the castle, and shivers. She has the spider-tingle bad. She creeps down the corridors, not sure where she's going. The ghosts stay hidden and the armour doesn't move.
She can't find a door, so she starts tapping bricks. The portrait is hollow and she kicks it. There is no inhabitant to protest as it swings open.
She stabs him in the heart, and he turns to dust.
brief notes about the music
so, obviously, i tried to pick all music i thought you'd like. or appreciate.
1. erase/rewind - the cardigans. this song specifically because i know you like better than ezra, and this song (for some reason, i don't know why) always reminds me of their music.
2. fall - leonardo's bride. so, a lot of the music i've picked is australian. leonardo's bride released two albums in the early to mid nineties ('angel blood' and 'open sesame'). this is pretty much indicative of their sound.
3. low place like home - sneaker pimps. there are no words to describe my love for the sneaker pimps. 'six underground' (it's used in the saint, the remake with val kilmer) was the song of choice in year ten.
4. your woman - white town. this is about being dumped by the love of your life, and knowing it's the greatest thing to ever happen to you. it was my 'i told you so' song when my friends were dumped by utter arseholes.
5. strange glue - catatonia. because "when faced with my demons/i clothe them and feed them."
6. eating the peach - from james and the giant peach. it's cute.
7. she's not fooling around - hunters and collectors. the hunters are my favourite band in the entire world. they're the epitome of the phenomenon known as aussie pub rock. i learnt to waltz to this song.
8. the sound of breaking up - paul mac. also an aussie artist. one of those enthusiastic yet horrible songs that i'm so fond of.
9. no aphrodisiac - the whitlams. named for gough whitlam, one of australia's favourite prime ministers, they are occasionally a political band. this song is not political. it's about things that you've lost.
10. the frogs in the glen - from sesame street. because i wanted to write about the muppets in some incarnation.
11. the day you come - powderfinger. another aussie band, filled with smart(arse) artists and clever lyrics.

14. the chariot - the cat empire. i'm not usually such a fan of ska, but one cannot resist a band (also aussie) that uses lyrics like "my mother always made me eat broccoli" and "i wrote this declaration just in case the world ends."
15. cry - the mavis's. ah, old aussie pop/alt. reminds me of high school, and summer afternoons.
16. say goodbye - hunters and collectors. two from the same band! so naughty. but this song is the greatest song in the world. some background. aussie pub rock means it's mostly performed in pubs. sure they did some in concert halls, but pubs, for the most part. so, picture it. two hundred, twenty-thirty year old men, crammed into a pub, it's all smoke and dim lights and spilt beer, enthusiastically singing "you don't make me feel like i'm a woman anymore." it makes me so happy just to think about it.
17. (bonus track) 冷戰 - 王菲. This cover of tori amos' 'silent all these years' is absolutely gorgeous. i prefer it to the original. and i know that you don't speak mandarin, but it sounds lovely, doesn't it?

I don't even think I could pick a favorite :) The Narnia ones, those are great. The Firefly ones are dead on. All of them are fantastic!
Next step is to listen to the CD and then read the stories as it plays :) I've done them separately, now time to put it all together!

My personal favourite is the BtVS/HP, because I am a big dork like that.
I hadn't written 100-drabbles in an absolute age, but I know you like them, so.
I was going to wait to send it, so it really was your first present, but then I couldn't wait any longer, because waiting meant sitting on fic for ages after it was finished, and I hate that. It's so frustrating.
No hurry, but at some point, I would be interested to hear what you think of the music I sent you, as I am relatively confident that you've not heard much of it before.
