Timestamps for A Refrain of the Things Behind Us (brand new start):
SIX MONTHS, for fahye:
They follow Duncan, though their frequent visits mean his guidance through the rabbit warren of the palace is no longer required. "How's it going?" Kara asks, to break the silence, and Lee glares at her. Duncan hums.
"It is as we expected," he replies. Kara starts to probe more, but Duncan pushes open the doors to the conference room and she pauses. At the table, Leto rests his hand curled against his sister's cheek, and Ghanima looks up.
"Duncan," she says. "Our stepmother was looking for you."
Duncan looks across the hall and back at Ghanima. "Thank you," he says, and Ghanima smiles brightly at him before he looks away, and the smile drops from her face.
"Thank you, Duncan," says Leto, his lips tight together. "That will be all."
"Your Highness," Lee says. "You called for us."
"Yes," the emperor replies. "I have a mission for you." The grin he gives is too bright, and too kind, and from the corner of her eye Kara watches Lee's shoulders stiffen, and she knows that Lee is worried, too.
"A small planet," the emperor continues. "Nothing too urgent, or dangerous, but I just need you to visit it for me."
She exchanges a look with Lee; he sighs, tilts his head, and she knows what that means.
The emperor grins, and his sister's stomach swells beneath her dress.
Kara hates this shit.
They fly out anyway.
and TWO YEARS, NINE DAYS for aj:
He opens his eyes. Her heart leaps; "Billy," she says, before she can stop the flow of words. He focusses his metal eyes on her, and the tank operator lets him step out. He breathes deep; when he walks, his gait is smoother than she remembered.
"Billy," she says again.
"Yes," he says, after a pause. "That is my name."
*
The Lady Jessica calls to visit the next day. Billy wanders the other side of the planet, flanked by Apollo and Starbuck, and Laura smiles at the Reverend Mother like she hasn't just paid for a clone, like she hasn't disobeyed the Gods and given life to one that she considers a son.
"Laura." Jessica smiles at her, familiarity borne of years, presses her palms together in the Bene Gesserit greeting. They discuss births and deaths and the spiritual well-being of the remnants of the Twelve Colonies, and when she gets up to go Jessica rests her hand on the door. "Laura," she says. "I hope that Billy is settling in. The rebirth can be quite disorienting."
The Reverend Mother knows, of course she does, and Laura closes her eyes.
*
She walks with Billy through the gardens; tells him tales he once told her, and frowns when he cannot remember the name of his third grade hamster. He filters requests from the people, and she guides them down another path so he cannot closely hear the words of suspicion.
On the fifth day, Dualla visits them, her hand raised to knock. "Oh," Billy says, and Laura thinks that she can hear the sound of bullets before she rudely closes the door on Dualla's face.
*
"Madam President," he says, oddly formal, and there is recognition behind his heavy metal eyes.
She smiles at him.

It should be impossible, the combination of BSG's starkness and Dune's lushness, but your style is seamless because the ideas slot together so well. LOVE.
