Swallowed Like Daylight into Morning by Pen
The Pretender, Parker + Jarod, PG.

She follows clues like bread crumbs: from bakery to hospital to night club she wanders, and by midnight she's tired and pissed off and her feet fucking hurt. After ten years, she should have learnt not to wear heels when she's chasing him but fuck if she doesn't look good.
Outside the nightclub, she fumbles for a cigarette. In the darkness she lights up, and when her eyes accustom to the night again she thinks she glimpses a familiar figure across the road.
She pushes through the crowds, heavy still through the drizzle and the time but when she reaches the corner he's gone. Her hand splayed against the cold bricks, she peers around the corner, eyes darting from streetlight to streetlight.
"Parker," he says, his breath warm on her neck, his hand soft where it rests against her hip.
"You're pissing me off," she says, cigarette dangling from her fingers. She refuses to turn around, and he doesn't ask her to, for which she's grateful.
"It's what I'm here for," he says, like it's not the story of her life, like it's not the story of his life, and she feels his smile against her skin.
"You're here for a lot of things, Jarod," she says, and kisses him.
Above them, the light shorts out.
She laughs.
