I just signed up for yuletide. I like to get it done early, so then I can forget about it until assignments come out. If you have never done yuletide, you should perhaps consider it! It is solely for rare fandoms, though the definition of rare is somewhat convoluted. The fandoms I have requested are Children of Dune, The Pretender, Love Actually and Narnia. Beneath the cut you can find my "letter to my writer" because if I don't write this now, I'll never write it.


Dear Person Who is Writing for Me,

Yuletide is pretty awesomecakes! I mostly sign up so I can write stuff, perhaps be a little adventurous, and I hope that you will do the same. I always feel really awkward when I'm making my requests in the little yuletide windows, so I'm going to elaborate here, but feel free to run with it in any direction that you want.


Children of Dune - Any
I said, their lives are circles and secrets, I would love to see some exploration of this. And I would! Alia has a hundred secrets, some that are actually secrets and some that are not, her love of the spice and her love of her brother. Her love of Duncan is convoluted, unsure, and her love of Irulan is bitter, tainted by the death of her brother.

Duncan is mentat, recreated and beyond death and if you've read the books, you'll know it happens again and again and he remembers, eventually, every time. What are his secrets?

You don't have to write about Duncan, or about Alia, I did request 'any,' these are merely examples of the things I love about the Atriedes and things that I would love to see. Feel free to write lots about the Twins, too, because they are my favourites.


The Pretender - Lyle, Parker, Jarod
I requested the wacked out relationship that the three of them have.

Mr Lyle hates and loves his sister, hates and loves Jarod. Miss Parker hates and loves Jarod, just hates her brother. Jarod hates and loves Miss Parker, just hates Lyle. I would love to see more of this, an exploration of the requirement they have for one another's existences, and the hate they feel for one another. Other things I would love to see: Miss Parker finally leaving (escaping) the Centre, and Lyle's search for her (and where Jarod fits into that); Miss Parker dismantling the Centre from the inside out.


Love, Actually - Natalie and the Prime Minister
I loved this movie. This selection was also made as my 'give,' in case my person ends up here, tearing out hair and unsure of what to write. I want to see Natalie, after she and the PM get together. She's not working there anymore, the PM's girlfriend cannot be his current tea lady, but what is she doing? Does she have to marry him to hang out in #10? What does the public think? Does she feel really weird? I want to see her happy but confused and I want to know what happens next.


CS Lewis - Narnia - Susan, Peter, Lucy, Edmund
Susan, after, and how she comes to see her siblings again (in Narnia). I LOVE YOU SUSAN PEVENSIE.


If you want to see the style I like, the themes I like, I've made fic recs at unproductive and I've also bookmarked heaps of stuff at my del.icio.us, or you can see the themes I explore in my fics, which are in my memories. Or you can just take a running leap and see what happens! I am up for all of it.

Please, if you write sex, don't make it too explicit. I'm a big fan of the soft touch and the fade away.



ONCE AGAIN I forgot to nominate 'The Cutting Edge,' what the hell? I do this to myself every single year. So I need to remember to nominate this next year. Also next year, I think I might also nominate 'Dune - tv' so I can request Feyd/Irulan and their craziness, and their desire to take over the universe.

FOURTEEN people have offered to write The Pretender. Who are all these people, and where are they normally? NINE people have offered to write Children of Dune. Write more fic outside of Yuletide, people, seriously. SERIOUSLY.
