Hey so I got two fics for Yuletide! THEY'RE AMAZING! AND THEY'RE BOTH ABOUT DEBBIE OMG.

Take The Photographs is about Debbie and Broots on the run, and it's SO GOOD (also, secret crossover). Debbie's voice as she's on the run is just perfect, and the little observations and notes are so good. And it's so hopeful! *squishes it* So good! I LOVE IT.

that which molds us from the clay is also about Debbie and Broots on the run, and its ALSO amazing, at the same time as being totally different - it's less hopeful, and it's more about the construction of the run rather than the shape of it, and Miss Parker is A++ (as always). I LOVE IT.

THANKS, YULETIDE SANTAS

YOU ARE GREAT

<3

The archive has been so slow, I've only just read these now (Boxing Day morning), and I don't think I'll get to the rest until later. Hope everyone's stories were awesomesauce, feel free to link and rec woo!

Dear Santa (and, incidentally, internets),

I love Yuletide! Thanks for signing up and WRITING FOR ME. This year I went for the comfortable familiar requests:

I used two nomination slots in order to request The Pretender! Because I love it the mostest. I requested Debbie + Broots on the run and out of the way - please note that this is NOT a request for incest! Although the incesty undertones (and overtones) are all over the place in the Centre, this is not the case with Debbie and her dad! They are just on the run. I also requested 'the politics of the Centre.' This request is A-OK for the incest-y undertones, particularly if we're talking the machinations of Mr Lyle and Miss Parker (they are THE BEST). And Jarod is, looming, or machinations, or something.

Machinations also appear in my request for Children of Dune. Pre-twin machinations are fine (Irulan and Alia fighting! Irulan and Chani fighting! Paul being all whatever! Korba!) but machinations involving the twins are also very acceptable! (I looove them)

Finally, I requested Space: Above and Beyond. At the end, everyone dies! Only, I wish that they didn't. I was non-specific with my prompt ('they're alive, and it hurts') because I don't mind who it is who is alive! And how much they hurt! I just want to know. Something. Anything. (Paul Wang is my favourite)

Thanks, Santa! I hope you have lots of fun! Thanks again for writing!

Best,
Pen

PS Any crossovers with any of my fandoms (listen in my profile) would also be very appreciated! I am a big fan of crossovers.

I just did my nominations for yuletide. Full marks to anyone who guesses all six, but I think that this year nobody will be able to guess that (surprise write in sixth nom!)

WILL THIS BE THE YEAR I GET TO WRITE ABOUT MR LYLE?!

The fact that I have written Star Wars twice this year is ASTONISHING.

This is a sort of a five things piece about the parts which comprise Obi-Wan. The original fic was (I think) an AU of sorts, stretching on forever into Skywalkers (including Anakin), and this is sort of that, the way Obi-Wan stretches through into the Skywalkers and back out the other side.

so, multiverse. does anyone know if we have to stick to a certain timezone? like, my ideal time for posting is just before i go to work, which will be well into the day of posting (monday) here, but still only be mid-evening on sunday in the usa! i know that often these ficathons restrict one to us timezones, but as it's not specified for multiverse and i haven't had an answer from a mod, i'm not sure what to do!

thoughts?

Dune, G, Chani (with Alia and Irulan)

Written as a part of [livejournal.com profile] yuletide for [livejournal.com profile] allburning, archived here. The request was Chani rules in Paul's absence (maybe he's dead, I dunno) with Alia's help. They are awesome. Do Not Want: Crazy Alia, Alia controlled/influenced by the Baron within her., which was such a challenge you have no idea. A great challenge, but a challenge none-the-less.

Pre-Baron Alia is still pretty much a nutter, let's be clear here.

Thanks to Sloane for the WOO THAT'S GREAT etc

Dear Yuletide Santa,

Thanks for signing up! &etc

Let me begin with this: I love The Pretender, but I also hate reading email, so I didn't check my signup when I got it. Looking at it briefly this morning, I discovered that I accidentally asked for Jarod, Miss Parker and MR COX WHAT THE HELL. I actually meant to ask for Mr Lyle. Mr Lyle. Lyyyle. I love Lyle. I don't love Mr Cox. If you wanted to write not about Mr Cox, that would be awesome.

Le that be a lesson to you all.

Of course you might not be here for tP. The Empress in Curse of the Golden Flower is a delight. She is wicked clever and beautiful and she knows so much and she knows how to fight and I love her. Doug and Kate from The Cutting Edge are bitter and hot-tempered but they know when they're right and they have no idea of when they're wrong and their fights only make them stronger. Dune is about the fighting too, the choices they make and the cautious alliances they form.

Their fights only make them stronger, all of them.

Of course, my spazzing about Cox aside, I will love him anyway. These texts are so delightful, so fraught and thoughtful. I would love to see the intersections of these lives and characters and their conflicts.

Yay Yuletide!

Cheers.

Somebody has already nominated The Cutting Edge! For the last eleven months I have been leaving notes all around the place to remind myself to nominate it for Yuletide, and SOMEONE HAS ALREADY DONE IT.

MAYBE I'LL GET TO WRITE ABOUT KATE AND DOUG THIS YEAR OMMMMMMMMGGGGG.

edit argglke do i make my sixth nomination for curse of the golden flower or for margaret mahy's the changeover. ?!

Remix is a varied experience for me every year. Last year my remixee was An Unstoppable Army of Lizzens, and remixing an old friend was both a frustration and a delight, but at no point did it really feel like a challenge.

I was surprised, upon going to sign up this year, that I was compelled to nominate a major fandom. I also suspect that the number of stories required has increased. I understand that both of these moves were solely to facilitate an easier time of matching authors, but of the major fandoms I only qualified for BSG and the idea of having no choice but to write BSG was almost enough for me to not sign up. I loved BSG, but I've not seen s3 or s4, and my writing of BSG is based now on whimsy and that old adoration, which means all I can write are pilots, I can no longer write those minor characters.

Still, I thought about not signing up, but at the last I did. And I matched with my remixee for BSG, and I despaired (even though she loves Billy, and I briefly considered changing one of her stories to be our favourite cylon!Billy, and then decided that would be cheating). But I saw that she had written Carnivale, and so I borrowed the DVDs from a friend and got to mainlining.

Justin and Iris are complex characters, as all interesting characters are. It was a challenge for me, writing older characters - I tend to not understand them so well, though it seems an arbitrary thing on my part. I enjoyed watching Carnivale, though I still have not finished watching it (two more episodes to go), and Justin and Iris are complex and creepy and I hope that that creepiness came through in the story. And it was an interesting process for me, gradually writing the story as I worked my way through the episodes.

Overall, I am happy with the piece that I have written, and saddened that few people have written for Carnivale, but a little disappointed by the challenge process. I really wanted to see some Dune or Pretender this year, but I suppose at the same time that if I didn't match anyone on Dune or Pretender, it means no one else signed up to write it. And that's disappointing, too. My beloved small fandoms.

So I've been reading through the yuletide archive, and it's funny how the descriptor: Roswell, Liz/Michael still brings out such a visceral, gut disgust in me without me even having to think about it.

Roulette, The Pretender. Debbie makes her own luck.

May I Feel Said He, A Poem by ee cummings. The Pretender. Jarod and Miss Parker out in the world and running from one another (and the Centre), and it's a great adventure. ALSO, I totally think I know who wrote this, based on a combination of who hasn't commented on the fic and the fic's title.

The Fearless Moral Inventory of Milhouse Van Houten Milhouse is ADORABLE. It has that bite that the Simpsons always gives, and it's Milhouse (and a great Bart).

The Ivory Horn - Will at Oxford, searching for the way with Mary and SUSAN QUEEN OF NARNIA.

A Fine Romance, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. This is a brilliant piece from Adam's point of view, the journey home. It's quite lovely.

The Journey West is American Gods, the tale of how Monkey comes to America and it is absolutely brilliant, it is perfect.

La Familia, a brilliant tale of Chrestomanci and his family.

Renaissance Portraits, 1602. An unsteady but interesting look at some of the other mutants in who don't appear in 1602.

The Kid from the Narrows, a really great Batman Begins fic about Jason.

Three Dead Men and the Women Who Did Not Mourn Them, Bourne.

You're the Tall Kingdom I surround, Bourne. Bourne and Nicky.

Cry for Yesterday, Narnia, adjusting in England.

Queen of Morning, Narnia. Susan, the Gentle.

Sea Legs, Narnia. A delightful tale of Eustance after returning from the Dawn Treader.

Sunlight Through Birch Trees, Sandman. It's a slow but lovely story of movement in the Dreaming.

Those Gates of Hell, Space: Above and Beyond. Nights on Deimos. I love Cooper <33

The Birthday of Eternity, Discworld. Brilliant Nanny Ogg characterisation as Death comes to visit.
bantha_fodder: ([aussie] i love a sunburnt country)
Hello world! It's Boxing Day, and I'm at a friend's house, utilising the airconditioner (today's forecast is 43C (that's pretty warm)), drinking alcoholic beverages and watching the cricket. Mr Cricket, WTH?

I've checked out a couple of yuletide stories: I received Outliving the Universe, about dear Susan, after the end and returning to her siblings. Narnia <333

I wrote three pieces: my actual assignment, one full length pinch hit, and a stocking stuffer. If you can guess one, I'll write something for you. Except you can't guess the stocking stuffer, as I made a (locked) post about it the other day. As such, comments to this post are screened until I unscreen them. You get no clues.

Just in case you're an author and you've missed it, there are some problems with the commenting system and comments aren't always being emailed to authors.
