[fic] twenty random facts about the battlestar galactica

I guess you could say that this is fic, of a sort. No real spoilers past KLG, unless you've seen the episodes in question. Mostly, this is just spec, and me wasting time.

Based on that meme going around.

Twenty Random Facts About the BattleStar Galactica

  1. Everybody knows about Tyrol’s still. He likes to believe it’s a secret, and that’s something the deck crew allows him to continue thinking, but they’ve been trading the alcohol for a while now.

  2. Apollo takes training sessions three times a week. There are people on the Galactica that haven’t used skills they learnt in training since training, and after the thing with the Astral Queen, the Commander wants everyone to be alert and prepared.
They’re not so worried about defending themselves against Cylons, because they know that in hand to hand combat they’d lose.
    Except Starbuck.

  3. Gaeta still sleeps with his stuffed elephant. The elephant’s name is George. There was this one triad game he was in, where he lost everything, and then he had a brilliant hand and if he’d just upped the pot a tiny bit he would probably have won. He never even considered George, because no pot is worth the loss of George.

  4. Because the Galactica was going to be decommissioned anyway, they never bothered fixing this small crack in one of the oxygen converters. Then, what with all the Cylons, they sort of forgot about it. That will be a problem one day.

  5. The guys and girls in the mess love their jobs. Sure, they hate dealing with the leftovers, and washing dishes and stuff, but the gossip is great. And at least they’re not janitors.

  6. Nobody seriously thinks that Apollo and Starbuck aren’t frakking. There was never a pool because everyone sort of assumes they were frakking way back in the dim mists of time, and just started up again after the end of the world.

  7. Dee’s bored of Billy, but she doesn’t want to be alone and it’s not like she has a lot of choices anymore.

  8. When people don’t want to frak in the barracks, there is a stairwell on the port side. Nobody uses the bottom level of the stairwell, and off the left of the stairwell is a storage cabinet. It used to be empty, but about a month after the end of the world a mattress and a box of tissues appeared in the room, and there’s a length of rope you tie on the door when it’s in use.

  9. There are other things to do on Galactica if you don’t want to frak, gamble, or train. Sleep, for example. Eat. There’s usually a game of “never ever” going on in one corner of the mess, but more often than not that degenerates into drinking and frakking, so.

  10. Eyes above the chin at all times in the shower.

  11. Cally misses swimming. She used to miss the rain, but then she spent time on Kobol, and she got over it.

  12. Tigh is really, really, really bad at sharing.

  13. There is a black market trade going on between ships, and between people on the Galactica. The most popular items are books, music, lollies and cigars. Number one used to be booze, and that is still number one ship to ship, but on the Galactica everyone just cozies up to the deck crew, so it’s less traded now. Nobody trades socks and clothes – what with so many dead, everything was pooled together and there’s a bit of a surplus now.

  14. Baltar’s lab is strictly off-limits. Partially because he doesn’t like intrusions, and partially because everyone’s a little freaked out by a guy who talks to himself.

  15. Mostly, though, they avoid his lab because nobody wants to walk in on him with his pants around his ankles, humping dry air. Oh yeah, Starbuck told everyone about that. Because it was HILARIOUS, if disturbing.

  16. There was a problem with finding room to house everyone in the fleet, as few of the ships were residential ships or had berths. But even with all the living space freed up on Galactica, civilians very rarely get to stay on it. It’s one thing to take the belongings of the dead. It’s another thing to share with civilians.

  17. The pilots really do believe they deserve special treatment.

  18. Ellen loves her husband, and shows it by making decisions for him. And trying to frak other people, because she’s young and active and he’s old. She wouldn’t want him to have a heart-attack in bed.

  19. Sometimes, Adama thinks about issuing an order and killing everyone. Because surely oblivion is better than this half-existence. Then he remembers Zak, and his ex-wife. Thinks about Lee and Kara and Saul and all the people he loves, and thinks they deserve a chance, even one so bleak.

  20. Nobody thinks they’re actually going to make it to Earth.

Totally loved this whole thing. And 4 is so very ominous.

Oooooh. this was so good. I mean, really, really, really good. I love how you manage to portray the entire show and how everyone is feeling in 20 random facts. #14 cracked me up. But these were all great.

This was great. I loved it.

Mostly, though, they avoid his lab because nobody wants to walk in on him with his pants around his ankles, humping dry air. Oh yeah, Starbuck told everyone about that. Because it was HILARIOUS, if disturbing.

I probably shouldn't have read this at work though - as I busted out laughing at this part.

Wow. This is great, and cuts to the heart of the show.

Can I just say that I love your icon? Faboo!

Didn't Tyrol take over the still from some of the deckhands? Or was that in a deleted scene? I adored its reappearance, and that he was using it's product as currency.

The stairwell is brilliant.

I know! It must have been horrible, being on Kobol, with the fresh air and with the ground and the different (non-metallic) smells and all that, and knowing everyone was dying and UGH.

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I am so in love with Kara and Lee. It's ridiculous.

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW. I just. Billy is such a darling, and he's going to be so hurt by this whole thing.

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Gaeta's just a little softie on the inside.

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. I've heard some good theories as to why they're not frakking, and some good theories as to why they are. So I choose to reserve judgement as to what we're supposed to think, but I think they're not frakking, but that everyone on the ship thinks they are.

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The people in the mess try to make food that everyone will eat, because if it gets eaten then they don't have to deal with the disgusting left overs.

:o)

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It is! Damn shame an almost decommissioned ship is the only one left.

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Excellent! Glad you enjoyed it.

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
You're lucky you get to read fic at work, though. *dies of jealousy*

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right. Tyrol took it over from Cally and Socinus and someone else. I think. Or was he originally a part of that? Anyway, it's Tyrol's still now, so that works! *g*

Thank you.

Love it! Excellent use of a fun device.

Every single one of those is absolutely perfect. Yes.

Great! Let's see... my favourites are 2, 4 (how cool is foreshadowing? Made me think this was God's POV), 15, and 19! 19 has to be the best, though, because it's *human* and cruel to be kind.

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Glad you enjoyed!

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! (I'm sorry. Apparently I have nothing else to say)

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Adama has started thinking these thoughts. He's been shot, and his son betrayed him, and Kara betrayed him, and he was just starting to respect Roslin when all this went down. And now he's wondering what the point of it really is.

It's SO ANGSTY,

[identity profile] meteordust.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
She wouldn’t want him to have a heart-attack in bed.

Best line! Actually, there's many best lines. Thanks for posting this!

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed.
