Spymaster Edmund is maybe my favorite bit of fanon, but he didn't obviously register upon first reading. When I read your reply I thought maybe I was confusing Spymaster Edmund with Warmaking Edmund, so I reread it. Your writing is subtle, and though I don't mind the undertones I miss because I'm distracted by pretty and ominous cadence (and who doesn't love discovering new nuances on rereadings?), it turns out that during the second half I did see trees and not forest.
