You may recall, sometime ago I wrote a soundtrack and assorted fic for [livejournal.com profile] elynrae.

As a refresher, the steps were as follows (as I have since swapped journals):
1. make a fandom soundtrack.
2. write a ficlet based on a line from each song, in fandoms that your recipient reads/read.
3. post.

This is one I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] sajee. And even if you don't read any of these ficlets, I'd like to draw your attention to the fact that number one is Dangermouse/Penfold. I am a[n evil] genius!

Rotations of the World - a fandom soundtrack

1. Dangermouse

(whenever there is danger he’ll be there)

“DM,” says the Chief, “I’ve got terrible news. The Baron has struck again!”

“Ah, tsk,” tsks Dangermouse. “Ah well, can’t be helped. Come along Penfold.”

Dangermouse leaps up from the couch as the Chief’s image winks out of view. Penfold, glasses on an angle and shirt untucked, follows a few seconds later.

“Oh honestly, Penfold,” Dangermouse scolds from the doorway. “Can’t you hurry it up?”

“It’s all very well for you,” retorts Penfold, “you’re not wearing any pants.”

2. LotRPS, Viggo

Steal My Sunshine - Len (keeping versed and on my feet)

Viggo sits on his porch, and watches the world go by. The trees grow, the birds live and fly past (they lay eggs and shed feathers, and Viggo collects the latter and makes a hat). CNN reports things of consequence wrapped in people and politics and fabrications designed to make Americans sleep easier. Hobbits leave voice mail (he lets the phone go to voice mail intentionally) and send photos of feet over email. He reads the newspaper, and as he finishes each page, he adds it to a papier mache New Zealand. He drinks English Beer with Bean in a pub in London, and they skip the small talk. He has a scrap book of Orlando, and he still updates it, even now.

He watches the world go by, and steps on when it stops.

4. Law and Order: SVU, Olivia

Ease of the Midnight Visit - The Whitlams (takes a leap of faith)

Olivia closes the file, and puts her head in her hands (oh god, oh god, why won’t everyone just fuck off and stop hating?). It has been a really long day, and a really long night and she was not sure she should even bother heading home, but home she went, later than Fin and Munch (not together, but you’ve seen that look before) but before Elliot. Elliot, the only one to have a reason to go home (five reasons, your treacherous mind reminds you), stays later and later at the station, occasionally sleeping the night in the crib (suspicious).

Olivia leans back on the couch and sighs. Elliot, there. Alone. Stupid. Secretive. She stands and reaches for her keys. She can’t leave him like that. No matter the consequences.

5. The West Wing, Josh

Mad World - Gary Jules (bright and early for their daily races)

Josh wakes alone, and the bed is cold and he is disoriented. He reaches and calls, and then he remembers that Sam is not there, Sam is in California and no matter what Sam says, Josh will always be alone now.

Josh lies back in his bed, and closes his eyes, but before he can wish the world away his alarm begins to beep. He tries anyway, but gives it up to quieten the alarm. He rises from the bed, and rolls his neck back as he walks to shower.

In the bathroom, he throws Sam’s toothbrush in the bin, then after his shower fishes it out and puts it back where it belongs. He can’t help but hope the toothbrush’s owner will come back to where he belongs, too.

Hair wet, he drives to work through darkened streets and past parked cars, lights in buildings only just turning on. Lucky bastards, sleeping in and not waking alone.

He walks into the West Wing, and ignores the guard on the door, because he knows the security guard gets to go home to his boyfriend. Josh is besieged by Donna as he gets to his office, and ignores her too.

Toby is bereft and standing in the middle of Josh’s office, and turns when Josh closes the door. CJ is sitting in Josh’s chair, scribbling nonsense on his files. She looks up at him with eyes bordered by shadows. She hasn’t been sleeping.

These are his people; alone, desperate, dedicated. Broken. But they have not left him.

6. LotRPS, Kate

Silent All These Years - Tori Amos (i hear my voice)

In years to come, Kate will not wonder what she was doing when Orlando fell in love with someone else, because she already knows. She was watching as he drifted away on the breeze, pulled by old friends and old lovers back into the stories she never got; stories she was never a part of. She will try to hate him for it, but it’s Orlando, so even though she won’t hate him, she’ll try extra hard.

7. Babysitter's Club, Claudia

50 Ways to Leave Your Lover (the problem is all inside your head)

When Stacy breaks up with her boyfriends, she always makes a list: The Pros and Cons of Being Single. It’s usually a page long, with a line drawn down the middle, the pros on the left and the cons on the right. She uses a black pen, because a break up is serious – maybe if it were a list of reasons to wear turtlenecks, or how to part her hair, then she could use a sparkly orange pen or a purple pen, but you just can’t think that way when contemplating a break up. So she uses a black pen, and always double-checks the list with me, to make sure it’s okay. She always covers the basics – his car, his clothes, his job, his grades, his friends. But she never considers if she’s happy, so I always tell her not to break up with him, not if he makes her happy.

I’m not happy with Stacy, I don’t think. She’s been my best friend forever, but now I want her to be unhappy with her boyfriends, so that maybe she can be happy with me. And that’s just not going to happen, so I’ve decided to leave Stoneybrook to go to college. And I’m not going to regret it. I think.

8. HP, Ginny

Stacy’s Mom - Fountains of Wayne (you’re just not the girl for me)

The water is hot and scalding; she has lathered the soap and lathered the soap and lathered the soap until there is almost none left. Her skin is raw, rubbed and hurting and scarily red like her hair, and she has cast every spell she can think of that might be useful, and a few that are probably more harmful than not. There is so much water her tears fall unnoticed as she continues to scrub.

But no amount of scrubbing can take the taint from her skin – the taint of being second, of not being enough.

Hermione has touched her, held her, kissed her. She has made Hermione moan, but it is not Ginny that Hermione loves.

And if Hermione could have mentioned that earlier, that would have been great.

9. BtVS, Faith

Stop - The Spice Girls (you don't even know me)

Faith dances.

She gyrates, she licks her lips, she makes eye contact. She changes colour under the rotating lights. She shimmies and she undulates. She dances like a stripper, but that’s the point.

She runs a hand down her body; runs the other down a body. The body obliges, and turns to her. She smiles at him, he grabs her and pulls her flush against him.

She thinks, ‘he’ll do.’

Faith dances.

10. Discworld, The Patrician

Mistress - Alan Rickman (i grant i never saw a goddess go)

The Patrician travels from his home in a carriage, and it is unassuming.

The Patrician climbs stairs quietly, but for the occasional plaintive yowl.

The Patrician watches Vimes sleep in his chair, and if you happened to be watching, you might question your sight because you thought you saw him smile, but the Patrician doesn’t smile. And then he throws the cat at Vimes, and is sternly amused by the way Vimes bats the cat at the wall.

11. HP, Ginny/Pansy

Science Fiction, Double Feature - Rocky Horror Picture Show (in the back row)

Ginny breathes in breasts; soft and squishy and beautiful. She nibbles and licks, inhales the slightly fruity, slightly sweaty girl-smell and revels in the lust. She leaves bite marks and scratches, and gets pushed away for her troubles.

“I’m not paying you for evidence, Weasley,” hisses Pansy, as she stretches her legs further apart and guides Ginny’s head down.

After Michael, after Dean, after Neville and Luna and Parvati, as her family’s troubles became more problematic and financial in nature, it was not a large leap for Ginny from fun to profit. So she took a small step, and here she is. Pansy Parkinson sitting on a desk in the back row of an empty classroom, the head of Ginny Weasley between her thighs and between her breasts, swallowing her whole and touching her softly. And it is not the first time, and it is not the last.

Tomorrow night, Pansy will accost Ginny as the latter leaves the Great Hall, and Ginny will push her against a wall and put a hand under her skirt around a corner and barely five metres away from where friends and enemies head on their way to towers and dungeons. And Pansy will gasp and push and enjoy it, back against the wall, scratching her head on bricks.

And she will dig her nails into Ginny’s back as she comes, and Ginny will not be able to wash the scars from her back and her memories, not ever.

13. LotRPS, Miranda, Karl

Into the West - Annie Lennox (they are calling from across a distant shore)

The phone rings, and Miranda knows whoever it is has forgotten the time difference again because it’s fucking dark out, and she’s going to kill them. She’s serious this time.

“I’m going to kill you,” she drawls into the phone.

“Oh Mir, it’s early, isn’t it?”

“You know Karl,” she slurs, eyes shut, “you, a fellow Antipodean, should at least have the decency to remember that we’re twelve hours ahead here.”

“That’s because you’re slow. If you were fortunate enough to be born a Kiwi, you might even be awake by now. And of course, you’d be a Kiwi.”

“I hate you. And I don’t care how the bloody premiere was, with your fucking stars and your fucking suit. You can go fuck yourself.”

“I got you a present, you know.”

“Forgiven. When do you get back to the hideous winter climate?”

“I’m in Sydney next week.”

“Present by Thursday, or I’m never talking to you again.”

“Miss you too, Mir.”

14. Pirates of the Carribean, Norrington

Shoot the Messenger - Catatonia (martyrdom does not become me)

It has been a long day, and it is late and dark, so Norrington is relieved it is over. He stands, and, stretching, is caught off-guard when Gillette knocks and enters the room.

“What is it?” Norrington asks, covering his momentary surprise.

“Miss Swann’s wedding to Master Turner is-”

“Tomorrow, yes, I know. What of it?”

“Governor Swann has just sent a message, Sir. It’s been cancelled.” Gillette profferes the aforementioned note, and Norrington takes it very sedately, and reads it aloud.

“Elizabeth and Master Turner have gone, and Elizabeth left a note that says ‘We need to go. Yo ho ho. With Love.’ The wedding is off, I’m afraid. If you would be so good as to inform others as required. I know I can rely on you.”

Norrington puts the note on the table. He shuts his eyes and grimaces and, eyes shut speaks quietly. “Please take care of this for me.”

“Of course.”

Gillette backs out of the room and shuts the door quietly.

Norrington turns to the window and tries to see black sails on the horizon, and hates himself for it.

15. HP, Trio.

I Don’t Want to Live on the Moon - Ernie (and an oyster and clam aren’t real family)

Harry had been living at 12 Grimmauld Place for two months before he started to crack.

Asked to participate in Order activities, and left to amuse himself in his free-time, both as he had asked to be, Harry found himself lacking confidants and friends. He missed Ron, and he missed Hermione. He didn’t want to be a grownup, not really. Not when he got down to it. It was a foreign, and hostile place.

When he called them on the floo, they came right over, and held him like he’d never told them to leave.

16. RPS, Ashley Olsen

History Repeating - The Propellorheads featuring Shirley Bassey (the newspapers shout a new style is growing)

Ashley doesn’t like the hairstyle Mary-Kate has been sporting since she got home. It’s very 1992 – in fact, it’s a little too 1992. She doesn’t care what is being worn on the runways right now, how their hair is being styled. It’s all a bit the same, really, and she thought Mary-Kate was above that.

17. Good Omens, Aziraphale, Crowley

The Ballad of Tom Jones - Space featuring Cerys (they say that music soothes the savage beast)

Aziraphale spent the morning cataloguing books and ignoring Crowley’s whining. “You’re so boring, angel,” and “books are only good for fire-lighting,” and “why do you never have any good coffee? How do you expect me to stay sane?” he would say occasionally. He disappeared down the street to find some coffee – for he would often say it was never as good when you made it at home, and was revelling in the silence when he heard a crash from the front of the shop.

‘That’s funny,’ thought Aziraphale, ‘I didn’t hear anyone come in,’ as he wandered to see what was happening, and was just in time to see Crowley batting a creature on the head with the nearest book handy.

“It was Hell,” Crowley shrugged, and Songs of Praise winked at Aziraphale.

18. The Lion King, Scar

The Bold and the Beautiful - The Drugs (where blood appears as thin as water)

Scar stalks back and forth across his lair, contemplating the universe and his tenuous and unenviable position within it. He considers his brother, and his nephew, and his nephew’s small female friend, and he watches his grasp on the kingdom falter with every day. And he makes plans that do not have room for family.

19. HP, Remus

Your Woman - White Town (i could never spend my life with a man like you)

It was after the encounter with Severus at the Shrieking Shack that Remus knew that love was not going to be enough.

He broke up with Sirius the next day.

(He was not surprised when Sirius didn’t understand)

20. HP, Percy

Nowadays - Chicago (you can live the life you like)

Percy wakes up with his alarm, and does not try to catch an extra five minutes (waste not). He showers, and skips breakfast (his mother would scold, but where is she? not here). He does not pass any pictures on his mantle or on his walls on his way to the door (want not). He’ll be first to the office, and last to leave, but no one will notice. No one will care that Percy works hard, and works long, and works to clean the dirt from his face. Nobody cares for anything but his name, and his name is Weasley, and he will not run from it and his name is Percy, damnit.

Why is [livejournal.com profile] sloanesomething evil? And why does that dictate your like for SVU? Surely you should like it because heeeee Munch and Fin and Olivia is great.

I had forgotten that I had ever written Norrington. And I reread it now, and wonder if I'm reading Sparrington into it so damn your black heart!

Ginny! and Pansy! (you should write your Pansy thing)

I will fill the world with Miranda and Karl, even if I have to do it myself.

Thank you.

Hey! I just realised: there was no Choir yesterday. Do you not do it every day?

Sloane is evil because she hit me with this huge monstrous multi-parted SVU Elliot/Olivia fic and before she did that, I had no idea who these people were. But thanks to that, now I'm all "eeeee!" (I have no TV. Have only seen them in action once, for five minutes, while channel-surfing at Amy's place.)

Yay for Sparrington and my black heart. You can't help it. It's THE TRUTH.

I should write my Pansy thing. I so should. One of these days.

And no, no Choir yesterday. Had a whole lot of other stuff to deal with, and once that was cleared all I wanted to do was play mindless computer games for a bit. Hopefully there will be Choir today. I usually get home from work full of the urge to have coffee and create.

Hee. What about the urge to create coffee? Are you at work now? Are you lj-ing at work, like some naughty fangirl?

Multi-parted SVU fic? WHERE IS IT?

Ssh! The boss will hear you!

Actually, that's unlikely, because he's out the front spruiking. Yes, I am LJing at work like a naughty fangirl. What's more, I'm listening to the Pixies while I'm doing it.

*does a little anarchist dance*

Unfortunately, Sloane hasn't posted her story, nor will she, since she wants to use a fair chunk of the material for origfic purposes. Sorry to go nyah nyah, but... yeah. It was damn good. It made me make funny noises.

Er... I think we might have a different definition of "spruik". He's out the front harassing passers-by into coming into the store. "30% off the lowest marked price of all books in the store, don't miss this, two more days only, there's Dan Brown, there's John Grisham..."
