The world's richest source of vitamin B has been banned in the US.

I'm laughing so hard I can't stop. I think the best part of the article is:

Former Geelong man Daniel Fogarty, who now lives in Calgary, Canada, said he was stunned when searched while crossing the US border recently.

"The border guard asked us if we were carrying any Vegemite," Mr Fogarty said.

Australians are being searched in case they're smuggling vegemite into the US alkjdflakjfdlafHAHAHA.

I don't really know what Vegemite is, but, uh, is it laced with COCAINE or something?

they've banned it for added folate acid... which apparently can only be added to breads and cereals in the US. which flabbergasts me, because it's a vital ingredient (pardon the pun) in helping to prevent spina bifida

But... like... I don't get it, folate acid =/= crack cocaine, right? WHY IS MY COUNTRY SO PHYSICALLY RETARDED LIKE THIS? Jeez.

I have never seen Vegemite in my life but I'm very proud of my government for taking a stand on this very important issue. Truly, I'm proud to be an American.

Now, I'm no big fan of vegemite, but... that has to be the most absurd thing I've heard ever lately.

What does Vegemite taste like? I live in America, so it seems I have little chance to find out for myself. ;)

Whoa. I remember seeing it in the store not too long ago. Maybe I should stock up, in case I get any Australian guests...

Hide it in your underwear.

I don't see why it's a problem if it's for personal use...maybe we need to hide it in toothpaste tubes...

Dude, you think like a criminal! You have clearly missed your calling.

What a fiendishly clever plan...!

And you can get Vegemite in a tube, though it's a wide tube...kinda of like a sunscreen shaped tube...just relabel it.

And dad just said that the story was on a tv news update. As someone else said, wars have started over lesser things. Johnny needs to call Shrub right now and demand Vegemite is let in otherwise we're pulling out of Iraq and the Anzus treaty.

Ok
folate = GOOD!

WHAT IS THEIR PROBLEM!

oh you're not allowed to add a substance that helps prevent a birth disorder (spina bifida) to ANYTHING except breads and cereals because then things might be too healthy!

Apparently they only allow it to be added to breads and cereals as a protection measure for the US wheat and grain industries. If other things had folate, then they couldn't claim that only breads and cereals had folate and were hence fabulous, and people might not buy bread and cereals and get their folate from other places!

They don't seem to realise that you eat Vegemite on bread/toast...

Is that... is that seriously the logic that my country is using to ban NUTRITIOUS FOOD? Sometimes I think that the government likes to keep a majority of a population extremely overweight just to give them something to bitch about.
