I heard a rumour of HP gift exchange wank. Something about signing up for an exchange, and then writing all the squicks. Anyone care to tell me the haps?

Don't know that much about it, but I saw this stuff about it here.

Short version:

Someone signed up for an exchange with one of her pairings being Harry/Sirius and listed squicks including necro, chan, the usual (among others).

The authors (apparently a pair who write together?) decided this was hilariously incompatible and chose to write a "crack" fic that included every squick listed. With a snarky a/n that said it was supposed to "cure" her of her phobias.

The mod 1. thought the fic was hilarious (it's gone now, though I expect someone capped it somewhere in the f_w story; I personally thought it was gross-out fic, which is not inherently the same as crack fic...) and 2. failed to realize this was in fact not an in-joke between authors and a recipient they knew.

The recipient was upset on her LJ.

The authors (who have a large following) posted, pointing and laughing at her upset.

Then, there was wank: a little at the recip for her level of upset, and a lot at the authors and the mod for being asshats (the authors) and for failing to think about it (the mod,for posting the story unquestioned). And then there was a lot of jumping to defense. It seems to be settling, I think, but yes, it is why you are seeing all these "gift fic means gift the recipient would like, duh" posts. At this point the mod has apologized sincerely, the recip has calmed down, and the authors have apologized, though given the point-and-laugh, there is some doubt about sincerity.

Wow, usually the stuff going on at f_w is funny, but this situation is just yuck. Thanks for explaining it so succinctly.
