but it is such a perfect place

Whilst waiting for the noodles to boil, I've been doing this. I DON'T KNOW WHY. I don't usually do memes (unless they relate to writing):
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better. If I already know you well, expect the questions may be a little more intimate!
3. You will update your lj with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
anr asked:
1. If you were an Evil Overlord, would you have a moat full of angry crocodiles or a complement of 21 armed commando's protecting the entrance of your secret lair?
21 armed commandos. I mean seriously, how do you make the moat of crocodiles angry at all times? Plus, that sounds pretty mean to the crocs.
2. Favourite celebrity pairing (real, rumoured or rpf)?
Alan Rickman/Emma Thompson, hello. Have you all read the thing that Lizzen wrote for me? Page 596.
3. If you worked in the police force, would you give your mother a speeding ticket?
If she was speeding, sure. She's a leadfoot, is my mum.
4. What would you like your (infamous) last words be?
I'm not trying to be trite, I was seriously going to leave this bit blank. I don't really care what my last words would be.
5. Most played song in your iTunes (or equivalent)?
The World is Not Enough, Garbage.

Date: 2007-02-06 06:40 am (UTC)No, me neither, but it's politically strategic to encourage people to buy 'free range.' It says, if given the choice I would rather by products that don't hurt animals. The animal rights movement can make use of that to lobby for other cruelty free products.
And wait 'til I tell you about the dairy industry!

Date: 2007-02-05 12:01 pm (UTC)When I was really little, I loved pink, until my lovely and supportive sister told me I was never allowed to wear it because I'm a redhead. And clashing is a heinous crime, you see. Then as I grew up my fictional role model, Anne Shirley, despaired over her redheaded inability to wear pink, and I think I convinced myself that better than pining as Anne did, I would hate pink so I wouldn't have to feel deprived. I remember my art teacher in high school saying that pink was supposed to be the most soothing colour and I scoffed, thinking that pink was disgusting.
Then in tenth grade came a bottle of "Electric Dream" hot pink sparkly nail polish cast off by a friend, and I painted my nails as a joke and fell in love. As I've always said, I'm an all-or-nothing girl, and being that that was around the same time I was discovering punk, it was well-timed with the realization that I don't give a shit about clashing, even if I do (and my hair is pretty dark auburn, so I feel good about it) or looking weird (which I always do).
Now, I just really love pink because I think it's beautiful, it makes me happy, and my art teacher was right after all. It is soothing.
2. Why did you originally become a vegetarian? (and, are they the same reasons now?)
I always felt bad about animals dying for my meals, even when I was a little kid, so the question is not really why but how I managed to make myself do it. Which was contemplating how gross it is to eat, say, a cow's muscles, and realizing how much I would be failing myself if I didn't follow through on my commitment. I still believe that today, but I have other reasons too — animal rights are not something I worry too much about but they're there; more pertinently I find the way meat-eaters compartmentalize their food from the animals they come from to be pretty ridiculous and so I have very little respect for carnivorous culture. I also simply could not do it again because it's been almost ten years and I would definitely get sick if I put it back in my system. But most important to me lately is the environmental impact meat production has on the world and how completely unsustainable it is; I've always viewed my vegetarianism as a personal choice, but now I really am beginning to see it as a moral issue like recycling and not polluting. *judges meat-eaters* Sorry, guys! Get with the program, or at least go organic.
3. Who is your favourite lady character ever?
Beatrice, of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. Anne, of L.M. Montgomery's Anne series. From fannish sources, probably Buffy Summers or old skool Veronica Mars, but currently my heart belongs to Toph Bei Fong from Avatar.
4. What was the name of that dancing movie you and Rawles obsessed over?
Take the Lead, woman.
5. Most played song in your iTunes (or equivalent)?
"Say Yes" by Elliott Smith.
