I know this is going to come as a shock to you all, but I accidentally OTPed myself on show.

One day, you're all going to understand how fantastic this show was.

I've absorbed so much Pretender from your lj that when I saw Andrea Parker in the pilot episode of Kitchen Confidential, my brain went all "What's Miss Parker doing managing a faux Mexican restaurant?!"

Thought I'd mention: I finally got around to watching the Children of Dune miniseries over the last day, and found it absolutely terrific.

Unfortunately my completist aesthetic now needs a single-source version of the entire Dune series (including the weird second trilogy) with consistent cast and props.

But yeah, it was great. I can see why you like it so much. I can also see the merits of the guy who plays Paul, as he works reasonably well as both young-Paul and old-blind-Muad'dib, whereas I don't think Kyle MacLachlan could make the transition so well.

Oh! This is pleasantly unexpected! I'm glad that you enjoyed it. As you well know, I find it quite enjoyable, and also quite rewatchable. I love the continuity of single-source versions, which is part of the reason why I like Children of Dune following from Dune (although the latter is nowhere near as enjoyable or well-produced as the former), but I also enjoy Children of Dune on its own, the colours especially and the interpretation of Herbert's story and all of it.

I also enjoy making Borg jokes when Lady Jessica uses The Voice, heh.

Why did you decide to watch it? Public holiday with naught to do?

Yeah, as you may know [livejournal.com profile] maxfenig is in Perth, so I'm having a massive cut in social contact for the next 16 days. I'm already starting to get pretty Crusoe over it, and a surfeit of visual media is one of the early side effects.

The idea to make Leto's transformation a bit less monstrous in the TV version really brings out the guy's sex appeal that little bit more. Not that they don't make every effort to get his shirt off - during the vision sequences in the Messiah part I was wondering why Paul wasn't all "why do I keep having visions of my unborn child with his shirt off?"

The balance of my opinion regarding the Lynch movie and the Sci-Fi Channel adaptations has shifted in any case :-)
