I have started watching Carnivale. It's four years old, but I'll CUT FOR SPOILERS anyway.

Professor Lodz is basically Sydney in disguise. When he's sitting there with his absinthe, being all cryptic and trying to guide it was very clear that he was just playing exactly the same character, ie Sydney. It took ages before I could even remember his name, because I remain so convinced that he's actually Sydney.

This afternoon we watched episode six, 'Pick a Number.' I am freaking out, mostly because of Samson turning as he leaves Babylon, and sees Dora-Mae standing naked in the window. And I freaked the hell out because even though we suspected it would be true, it was awful, terrible to know that it was true, that Dora-Mae would be stuck there, sad and beautiful and naked forever.

Brother Justin and Iris weird me out, too.

That's it so far! I'm intrigued and challenged by what I am seeing, so that's cool.

I'm watching Carnivale, too! I just got disc five and will be popping it in shortly. Episode six broke my heart. I knew Dora-Mae had to be there somewhere, and the visual confirmation was wrenching.

Brother Justin and Iris? TOTALLY weird. So far, I think my favorite characters are Samson and Jonesy.

I just finished season one today, and it's such a confusing series, but it's really interesting and challenging, too. I'm really enjoying it.

Fun coincidence! I finished season one on Sunday as well! It's so strange and, yes, confusing, but I really got sucked in. I enjoy the world, the atmosphere, and can't get the music out of my head.

As an aside...

I love that people who say they don't watch/appreciate horror always seem to find a special place in their hearts for Buffy, Carnivale and the Sandman series.

I'm not sure it's true horror, but it's definitely creepy but it's also really awesome.

Oh, I love Carnivale! It was kinda incomprehensible most of the time, but a truly beautiful show to watch - just stunning, visually, and the perfomances are excellent. I hope you enjoy it.

I'm pretty excited about it! Sad to know in advance that it only lasted two seasons, though.

Yeah. *sigh* That expression "Only the good die young" appears to have been created expressly for awesome television shows.

Is there any fic or anything floating about the place? You know, if someone were interested in that sort of thing.

I've never read any, personally, but someone else on my F-list was talking about it. There's GOT to be some out there!

It's weird and awesome and completely cracked, and has oddly enough become my touchstone for all things concerning...er...well, you might not be there yet -- and the American Great Depression, and hotass carnies like Ben. I miss it so.

And oh yeah, Brother Justin and Iris. CREEPY yet totally scary-awesome.

CREEPY yet awesome. On the one hand, old people. On the other hand, creepy siblings.

OMG creepy tattoo. (that's the bit we just got to)
