- You know that 'ten unpopular opinions' meme? Who the hell decides if your opinion is unpopular? I think it should be 'ten opinions I think many on my friends list will disagree with, but they are not so radical that I don't feel like I cannot share them.'
- What is the point of a 'monthly fic round up'? I admit I thought about one for the month of October, but that is mostly because I wrote in several small fandoms/pairings, and I'd like to remind everyone that I did that so that you can love me more. So there is my entirely selfish and attention-seeking reason why I wanted to do a monthly fic round up. I didn't do it, because there was no way I could post that and not have S go "OMG DID YOU JUST PIMP YOURSELF?!" I would then feel embarrassed and have to admit how wanky that was, and subsequently delete the post, so I skipped doing it (Candor compels me to admit that I wrote six fics in five different fandoms in the month of October. FIVE. OMG I am so multifandomish it kills me).
Anyway, if you post a fic roundup, please tell me why you do it. - Occasionally, Claira likes to torture herself by reading fic that she knows is bad. She then likes to torture me by showing me the very best of it, and by best I mean the paragraphs most likely to make me show my true colours as a really mean person. Yesterday she showed me something that prompted both of us to wonder if the author was watching the same show as us.
All day I pondered going to this person's post and commenting with the following: "Are you sure you're watching the same show as the rest of us? The Kara you have described here clearly has no bearing on the Kara we see on television. I mean, if you actually have access to a BSG where Kara is like this, feel free to hook me up. Otherwise, OMG, watch the show again and come back when you can disengage yourself from your need to make Kara girly." - If you write something, and I don't care if you post it locked or unlocked, or in fact if you never post it at all, I don't ever want to see you fluttering around the place going, "Oh, I'm going to hell." If you're doing it, embrace it and move on, or stop doing it. Whatever (this is in direct reference to the RPF thing, but applies to everything).
- OMG passive-aggressive bullshit.
- Pairings I Don't Understand includes but is not limited to: Harry/Draco.
- A link is not the same as a fake lj cut. A fake lj cut looks like this: ( this is a fake lj cut ). If your link looks like this: this is a fake lj cut, then IT IS A PLAIN LINK. You can use a link, you can use a fake cut, you can use a real cut, whatever. But don't label it a fake cut when it barely looks like a real link, let alone a cut. We have already had this discussion on a previous occasion, LJ. I do not want to have it again.
- Whilst I am ranting about names, let's talk about names for pairings. A long time ago, I was in Roswell fandom, right? And we had the stupidest yet funnest names ever. Lamp Trimmers. Daydreamers. Candies. These were cute, and oftentimes incomprehensible. You know what doesn't work for me? Mashed up names. HeBoo, for example, sounds like something stupid people might say to a baby. Dramione? Sounds like a type of cloth. I'm thinking it's something to do with curtains. Don't even get me started on 'Harmony.'
Also, someone explain why Apollo/Boomer is 'The Dark Ship.' - ETA: Oh, wait. Also, queer het. It's just het, guys. Stop trying to rationalise it to yourself that oh noes you like het so it must be queer. Just deal with it, and move on.
I'm trying to think of more things about fandom that I want to rant about, but apparently I actually quite like fandom at the moment. OMG WHO KNEW?!
