[vmars] just some thoughts
Jun. 16th, 2005 04:05 pmSo, I've been in this fandom all of about five days. I finished watching the last episode last night. Here are some thoughts. Everything under a cut includes spoilers through the entire first season.
1. Veronica Mars has some serious trust issues.
With all the speculation about who was at the door has come some interesting theories. My friend J was over last night, and he told me one of the theories is that the time (3:07) upside down is LOE. Which stands for Logan Echolls. Apparently. And that's apparently a clue that it's Logan at the door.
But that's not what this is about. That's just a nice introduction. When Veronica opens the door, she's a little subdued but kind of pleased, and that's great, but Veronica's got some serious trust issues. This is demonstrated by her inability to ask questions. This may seem a weird point to make, but bear with me. When she's finding out about the roofies/etc, she follows the verbal path laid down by her classmates. And she believes them, pretty much. Sure, she asks for further confirmation, but she believes them. But when Tad says it was Logan who gave him the drugs, what does she do? She stands Logan up. She believes Tad, but doesn't bother asking Logan for his side. She does the same thing when she works out the video camera thing in that bedroom. Sure, in the final episode when Logan says he's innocent she at least checks to see if his story is true, but HE has to approach HER. She's so ready to believe that he's the bad guy every single time without giving his voice the same weight she gives every other person she knows.
This unwillingness to trust is not limited to her interactions with Logan. As Wallace says, he never asks, and she never tells, but when he asks about Logan and the late pass she lies. And Weevil! With files on all her friends over the murder of Lilly, it's no wonder she's bitter and twisted AND ALONE OMG.
I'm not saying she has no right to be aloof and bitter and cautious. In the pilot, it is very clear that she's pissed at her mother - who is 'the villain' who goes, right? But then she finds her evidence and believes her mum, and then her mum betrays her. And when that happens, sure. All her friends turned on her, her best friend died, her mum lied and had an affair and all sorts of stuff.
And I'm not criticising Veronica Mars. I'm just saying, she has some serious trust issues, and if she's happy in a relationship next season I will eat my hat. All of my hats.
2. On a lighter note: where is the Weevil/Veronica/Logan, huh? I know where the Veronica/Logan is (everywhere); I know where the Veronica/Weevil is (doesn't exist); but what about the Weevil/Veronica/Logan? Come on, people! IT WOULD BE HOT (uh, if you're new to this journal, you need to know that I have a thing for threesomes, but only if they are filled with hot people who have great sexual tension. Like Kara/Lee/Helo, for example. I like to see if I can make the threesomes happen in a plausible and in character fashion).
3. I love Mac. I LOVE HER.
4. About 'Leave it to Beaver.'
Dear Lianne: OMG NO YOU BITCH.
Dear RT: OMG NO YOU BITCH.
Dear fans: Look at the light in that last scene. The day scenes in the front of the house are much more glare-y - the sun is always reflecting off that door and into that front room. It's blatantly night time.
5. I LOVE YOU, ALYSON HANNIGAN.
6. About the above episode (feat: AH):
OMG Logan cried. I was so, so impressed. I love Logan.

stop watchingbe very upset.2. I know! I'd kill for more Weevil/Veronica. Unfortunately all the threeways seem to be with Duncan, whom I find about as appealing as something very unappealing. I mean, I get him as a character, but he's just... not appealing. Also, a lot of the fic is just... not good.
3. Dude. I don't think I've ever loved this show as much as when I realized they were actually, for real, doing the switched-at-birth thing. Mac's birth-mother is also really sweet, and it's not like there's an overabundance of good mommies on the show, as shown by...
...4. Word.
5. Um, really?
Wow, I didn't mean to ramble on like that. Whoops.

3. Mac is the awesomest! I love her. I hope she's around more next season.
4. When I first saw it, I thought it was night, but apparently it's the afternoon because the the red light which identifies AM/PM was at PM. So, I don't know.
5. Aly is awesome. Since she's going to have her own show now, it'll be unlikely she'll be guest starring anymore. Too bad.
