[meme] ten pairings i like, in no particular order, with accompanying fic recs

I first started working on an answer to this meme three years ago, and now that this meme has finally come around again, I can't find the notes I made for it. So I'm not totally positive, but I'm still pretty sure, that this list is eerily similar to that list, with a few obvious new editions (BSG).

I added the fic rec element to this. If you have recs for these pairings, SHARE THEM.

1. CJ/Toby, The West Wing

CJ and Toby have been friends for years and years. They met and they parted, in the way that friends do, and there were years where they didn't talk, but they're hanging out together again and I love it. And maybe they had sex, and maybe they didn't, but they have been friends and they will be friends and they understand and they fight but the years haven't defeated their friendship, and that's the most important part. I love the little clues we get in the series: CJ being blind (no glasses) and recognising Toby's voice before falling into the pool; the little eyebrow quirks and things that AJ and RS said they totally did on purpose; THIS KISS OMG and THIS CUDDLE; the little hand motion over his heart in The Women of Qumar. I love the comfort in an old friendship, that evidence that you can be friends, and you can be apart for years, and you can come back together and still be great friends.

2. Michael/Maria, Roswell

She's a bit of a hippy, kind of jaded even as she wants to believe, and thinks he's a weirdo. He's an alien. He was separated from his alien buddies, and was in and out of foster care. He's bitter and careless and hates the whole world, and whatever he's got going on with Maria is a little bit twisted and probably not very happy but it's so shiny and she makes him happy. Usually. And he often makes her happy. But they'd be less happy apart. And they really do love each other. Plus, they were a real life couple for a couple of years, and that sort of thing always pleases me.

Anything by Elizabeth should be read, but she appears to have disappeared, so, read anything Joyful wrote instead

3. Miss Parker/Jarod, The Pretender

Look, I know I go on about them all the time, but that's because they're so fabulous. As children in a world of grownups, they had no one to turn to but each other. Then Miss Parker got sent away, learnt all sorts of stuff, and came back vicious and cold and a right bitch WHO WE ALL LOVE. And wearing leather. And she was sarcastic and smart and cool. And he escaped from the Centre, explored the world and found girls (BOO HISS ZOE AND NIA I'M LOOKING AT YOU) and family and Pez, and Miss P was brought in to find him and along the way they discovered they totally didn't hate each other, actually they still really cared. ALSO HOT. Also Gigolo Jarod HELLO.

4. Michael/Nikita, La Femme Nikita

They're secret operatives for a covert organisation. We don't know where they're based, we don't know who they work for. Michael is cold. He trained Nikita, and she hated it. She hates Section, but she makes the best of it. She makes some great friends, and she tries to enjoy what life she gets outside Section. If you've ever watched Alias, this is where that bastard Abrahms got all his ideas. Also, Mission Pants.

5. Draco/Ginny, Harry Potter

They hate each other and they're really pretty. That's all I have, really. THEY'RE HOT.

Okay, also because Ginny could totally be evil. Pining after Tom or something. And evil Ginny would be cool. Looking out for herself, getting by, whatever. Having hot evil sex with Draco.

Bare Naked by Dee; Dark Directed by fearthainn; Souveniers by Holographis (which she has totally moved again); The Letter by heinous_bitca (which is not great but IS a lot of fun and VERY HOT). ETA How timely! Dee's recent post reminded me of Win-Win by rhoddlet. You should read everything rhoddlet has written ever. I'm serious.

6. Ghanima/Leto, Dune

Look, I know that they're twins. But after you've read the book Children of Dune, and then watched the Sci-Fi mini series, come back to me and you can see it. They love each other so, so much, in a totally inappropriate way.

I refuse to read fic for this fandom, unless Sloane feeds it to me, so if you're interested the only fic I'm reccing is MINE HAHAHA.

7. Bruce Wayne/Selina Kyle, DC

I'm going to list some things: masked heroes, masked criminals, leather, weapons, sexual tension, HOT SEX. WHAT IS THERE NOT TO LOVE? Also, just Gotham City in general.

Two of These Things I Did Not Want by sloane; I recently read this long fic called "Children of the Night" by someone called Nos. It was really great, except for the final chapter, which I hated so much I threw away the link in disgust. Does anyone happen to know it?

8. Kara/Lee, Battlestar Galactica

They're old friends. They knew each other way back, drifted apart, and now circumstance has brought them back together and their friendship is still there.

I feel like, if you're reading this journal, I totally don't need to link to any fic here because I do it all the time anyway.

9. Grissom/Catherine, CSI

They're old friends, and when Grissom had a job opening he called his old friend Catherine to see if she wanted it, because he trusts her, and adores her. ARE YOU SENSING A PATTERN IN THE PAIRINGS I LIKE?
