A brief bit of fic for Liz: breakfast with the King of Archenland. i do not own, etc etc.

On the first day of Spring, the sun was unusually bright, and the sky unexpectedly clear, so Cor joined his brother and his father in the North-Eastern gardens for breakfast. Surrounded by intricate hedgery and cats lounging in the warm sunlight, Cor fought with his brother for dominance over the blackberry jam.

"Cor," interrupted their father, and coughed loudly. "Soon you will be King, and as such, there are things I would discuss with you."

"Father," laughed Corin, "Do not play games with us. That cough was so contrived you could not hope to convince the dumbest of creatures. There is nothing you need discuss with Cor."

"And yet I would," replied their father, caught out in his act. "For I am old, and one day Cor will be your king."

"And a jolly terrible one at that."

"Cor," said the King, turning to his eldest son. He raised his voice over Corin's laughter. "I need to talk to you."

"So I gathered, Father. Surely we can talk now, so that I may take Corin's counsel?"

"Not that you would want it," said Corin.

"Indeed, it is worthless," said Cor to his brother, "But I would have you here all the same."

The King took a deep breath, and spoke, his voice heavy and serious. "Cor," he said, and laid a hand on Cor's shoulder. "I think it time you took a wife."

Corin choked on his toast.

oh man the teasing! Think of the teasing from Corin! And then Aravis would give him a glare and he would shut up right quick.

Haha! Great!

The teasing from Corin would be AWESOME. And then Aravis would be torn between being annoyed and being amused, and eventually Aravis and Cor would marry and that would ALSO be awesome.

And here I thought reading/seeing LWW would help me out a bit with the Narnia stuff. :P It's not totally lost on me, though, this was charming all the same.

Is there any explanation for the Archenlanders' presence in the WoN (world of Narnia, not sure if there's a canonical term)? They're humans, but who are they descended from?

I know that the Telemarines, who are also human, are descended from pirates who were from 'our world' and were marooned on an island and accidentally stumbled into one of the magic places. But I don't think there is any explanation given for the Archenlanders.

I think it says somewhere that the first king of Archenland was the son of King Frank and Queen Helen, but that doesn't explain how the entire race was born...unless they also had daughters...

the old Adam and Eve problem- except in Narnia there are river-gods and naiads and dryads and things, as it says in the Magician's Nephew. I always liked the idea that even the humans in Narnia were a little... different.

Hee! So not what I expected (not that I know what I was expecting) but really marvelous and just how I see the brothers acting toward one another. Also, I think The Horse and His Boy is my favorite book.
