One Button to Push
Narnia RPF, Anna and William, rated PG.
THIS IS ALL UNTRUE.
This is very probably a (fairly dorky) belated gift for Twinkledru J, even though she NEVER READS MY FIC THE HO.
Sloane helped. With the spelling.

"Oh, nice," he hears, and when he turns, one arm still pointing a stick to the sky, Anna's leaning on a fence post.
Her nose is pink, like she's dipped her nose in strawberry sauce, and he thinks about ice cream. "These are loyal Narnians," he declares, waving his sword around at the cows, "and I lead them into battle."
"Brother," she says, "Let me follow you into battle. I am strong of heart, and my arrow always flies true." Anna lifts imaginary skirts from around her ankles, and steps daintily into the field.
William shakes his head and drops his sword hand until the point rests on the ground. "Sister," he says, and cups her cheek with his hand, "Wars are ugly things, when women fight."
"Well," says Anna. She tilts her head. "That'll be the first line to go."
"Oh, what, you're going to threaten Santa Claus now?"
"I am," she replies, and when she grins at him he laughs.
"There'll be coal in your stocking come Christmas," he says.
"Will!" calls his mother. "Anna! Kettle's on!"
He drops the stick and runs, but she gets there first.
He frowns.
*
When she's not looking, he tickles her in retaliation.
He forgets what he is retaliating for, but she laughs at him, so it must have been for something.
*
"I don't feel a king would abuse his sister," she says between giggles.
He grins ruefully at her. Worries. "I'm not king yet."
Anna rests her head on his shoulder. "You will be," she says softly. Strokes the inside of his wrist. "You will be the greatest king that Narnia has ever seen."
Her faith touches him, and he tries again.
*
At the final callback, he imagines the girl opposite him is Anna, and when she flicks her hair behind her shoulder and grasps his arm he shudders.
*
As the phone rings he holds his breath, and when she answers he exhales loudly, but says no word.
"Oh, so it's one of THOSE phone calls," she says, and in the background someone laughs.
"So I'll see you next month at costuming?" he says, the end of a conversation they never had.
"Congratulations," she replies, "Of course you'll stay with me," and that is all they ever say on the matter.
*
He flops onto the grass beside her. "Why on earth are you reading?" he asks.
"It's supposed to be a very good book." She looks over at him with mock disdain. "Not that you know how to read." He reaches for the book, and tugs and tugs until he stops pulling and just falls forward and their noses crash together.
"Perhaps you'd like to read it to me," he says. "Since I can't read and all."
He lies beside her, his hand grazing her side, and her voice lulls him to sleep.
*
He leaps into her trailer without knocking, and finds her asleep on the bed, hair sprawled all over the pillow.
"Oh," he says, quietly, and starts to back away.
"It's okay," she says, "I wasn't really sleeping anyway."
"Late shoot?"
"I just came in here to find Georgie's hat. She wants me to film it."
He smiles and sits on the edge of the bed. "I think she's forgotten about it now."
"Well," she says, and blinks her eyes at him. "If we're not needed, you'd best read to me."
He reads, and as she falls asleep again she draws patterns on his back with her hand and uses his thigh as a pillow.
He tries very hard not to move.
Or breathe.
*
He piggybacks Georgie around the set, and watches Anna with her head on James' shoulder.
He sets Georgie on the floor, and when she breaks them apart he smiles.
*
They finish the book the same day they wrap filming.
He wonders at that.
*
In front of cameras, he tries to keep his distance. She wraps her arm around his and says, "Don't be stupid."
Georgie grins and says, "I wore a headband to match your jacket."
*
He doesn't even have time to look at another script before he gets the call.
*
"Did you hear?" she asks, before he can speak. "Did you hear?"
He nods and grins; forgets she can't see him. "I got a call from Andrew," he replies instead, "and we're not yet too old."
"You must stay with me again," she says abruptly.
He is suddenly glad she cannot see him.
"That would be grand," he says. "Sure your mum won't mind? Strange boy in her house and all."
When he hangs up, he leaves his hand on the hand set.
Breathes out.
*
Finally, finally, he kisses her, and it is something like relief. She laughs into his mouth. "This will be the best movie ever," and he hums his agreement against her lips.
She is soft, and he looks forward to the adventure ahead.
